Rosemary's Blanket

On Wednesday night, Jason took the middle kids to a movie.  I stayed home with the babies and the task of doing 2 days worth of dishes, due to our newest disaster of the dishwasher being once again on the fritz.  Imagine my delight when my good friend (who also happens to be my cousin, what luck!) pulled into the driveway, armed with a bottle of wine, a bag of Chex Mix and a gift for my little Rosemary.

Elizabeth (or Libby, as I call her) is an amazing crocheter.  She has made so many beautiful things and I always love to see what she's working on.  I'm all thumbs at crocheting - besides a few very basic things, I'm not much good at it at all.  She is very advanced and manages to pick the most lovely color combinations.  She improvised the pattern for this blanket.  I absolutely love it!  I can just see it on Rosie's trundle in the girl's room - once she's big enough, of course.  For now, it's the perfect playtime blanket.

I'm not sure if it is because I make gifts for others myself that makes me appreciate the gift of something handmade.  It truly is more than the object itself, but who made it - and the time and love poured into it that makes the gift so special.  And if I know Libby, there are prayers and blessings for Rosie crotcheted right in.  Something that will bless her all the days of her life.  That makes this more beautiful than anything we could buy in a store.

  3. how beautiful! Sadly, the only person who knew how to make anything was my grandma who passed when I was 17. Man do I wish I had paid more attention to her when she was trying to teach me as a kid. I would love to be able to give someone a gift as beautiful as that. Enjoy it! <3
