Relationships

Today I was given the most delightful gift - if you know me at all, you will know how big of a deal this is for me.  A friend gave me the gift of quality time spent with  her beautiful family.  Truly one of the blessings that speaks most to my heart and gives me the warm fuzzies.  Sitting in her home, sipping coffee, surrounded by her delightful children (9 in all!) and talking about every thing under the sun was so wonderful and relaxing and refreshing for me.  I am so amazed with how gracefully she parents her little ones and how happy she truly is with them.  I'm sure it can be overwhelming at times but you really come away from that house with the impression that everyone in there works together and loves one another very much.  And of course we know that the Mama is the center of that, the heart of the entire family.  It really fed my soul after the day before, a not-so-great day in mommy-world.

Driving home with my small-by-comparison brood of 4, I thought about all the relationships I have.  Friendships, both casual and lifelong.  Relationships with siblings and parents and cousins and Aunts.  How in one relationship you may be the one with all the answers but it another you may be the one with all the questions...and then just when you get everything figured out, something changes.   Some friends are around for a season, some forever.  Sometimes its surprising when someone you thought was around for the long haul suddenly disappears, or when someone lurking in the background becomes a very big part of your life.  Constantly morphing, changing, adapting.  The intricacies of human relationships are endless.  I'm always so intrigued by relationships, how they happen, how people find some common thread and just come together so nicely (or sometimes not so nicely).   God knows what we need even when we don't.  In this case, encouragement showed up just in time.  Who knows, maybe someday I'll be the one inviting some little mama with her young children over to see my big crazy family and chat.  If that day ever comes I just hope that I impress on her the same things that Amy impresses on me every time we talk:  God and Family is what it is all. about.

If you are reading this, Amy, you have no idea how much you blessed me today.  Thank you so much.

  1. I believe God made us that way...with a void that only "relationships" can fulfill. I feel like I'm beginning to sound like a broken record...but "beautifully written" again :) I sent you an FB msg.. will follow up on that just in case you didn't receive it...

Sam can't stop talking about his "favorite friend". :) I kept saying "Lydia said this and Lydia said that" all evening. Jesse was like "you really like her, don't you" Yep! I sure do! Looking very forward to Mondays this summer :) And Tuesdays again in the fall ;) God bless you and your beautiful family!!!
