Late Summer Knitting (Outside and In)

It may come as a surprise, but I haven't knit in awhile.  Not really.  I've dabbled here and there, but summer doesn't always inspire me to cozy up with wool.  This summer saw my projects neglected, yes, even on long car trips.  I just rested, let my hands be idle for a bit.  It felt good.  It felt right.

Now that Fall is whispering to me in the evenings after the sun goes down, my wool stash has been calling me as well.  Ideas for Christmas knits and thoughts of cozy evenings wrapped in flannel with needles flashing, well...I have been quite seduced.  So I ordered yarn for my oldest son's Christmas sweater and settled in to begin.

I'm knitting High Water, and enjoying it quite a bit.  The construction is different than I have ever attempted before, so that keeps me on my toes and interested.  I'm using Black Berry Ridge worsted yarn in a natural dark grey.  Isn't there just something about leaving color as it is, right off the fleece?  I think so.  This yarn is a bit more textured than the suggested options of the sweater, so it will be a bit more tweedy when all is said and done.

There's another reason I may be more inclined to knit these days.  Something about knitting something (someone?) on the inside gives me the itch to knit on the outside as well.  And yes, there is some inside knitting going on here as well.  We are so blessed.

What are you working on these days?

(Pairing up with Ginny over at Small Things today.  Come on by!)

  1. Congratulations!! I've been reading your blog for a while and feel very inspired by your ability to have so many children, homeschool, and still seem to have your sanity! I have 4 kids and homeschool and sometimes I think I'm going crazy!! :)

    1. Thank you so much! Not much sanity left over here, I must admit. Trying to remember to be peaceful and relax. This is a good life and we ARE blessed!

While I was pregnant with my newest blessing, I was constantly knitting...from like day one! So I completely get what you are saying that being pregnant makes you want to sit and knit!

Looking forward to reading all along this journey with you once again!!

Blessings to you and your sweet family and Congratulations!!

  10. I'm so excited for you all! What a blessing! It is amazing how He works in us all. I have been reading your blog since before you were pregnant with your third little one and each time I have been so excited for you and your family! I almost never comment because I am only online for a short time but I have loved your blog since the first post I read. You are such an amazing person, mother, and wife and you give me something to strive for. I have been wondering ever since you announced that you were going to use a home based charter school if there might be another little one on the way. We struggled with that as well last year when I was pregnant with my 6th blessing. Obviously you know this already, but whatever happens along your journey in life it is a path that He has chosen for you and your beautiful family and I think you are sooooo blessed. How wonderful for your little ones to have another sweet sibling. There is nothing better in life than a big family! Congratulations!! I can't wait to continue to follow your wonderful journey through your blog. Jill

  11. Almost skipped reading this as I am neglecting some knitting and didn't want to feel guilty about how behind I am (knitting for a pregnant loved one)- how could you be so sneaky about announcing something so wonderful? Haha.

CONGRATULATIONS. I love hearing about babies on the way. I seriously have a big grin all over my face right now. What great news :)

  12. you know what's strange? I had a feeling you were going to announce this in this post - even though all I saw in my inbox was the usual "Lydia J Will" - nothing at all to give me any clue this post might be different. of course many of your readers may have been expecting such an announcement lately.. but I really had a feeling I needed to read this one right away! so funny.
and so wonderful. How blessed you are, and how blessed we are to be inspired by you. I admire you greatly and consider you somewhat of a mentor of mine though I don't know you personally. Thank You, Lydia. <3 and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

  14. Congrats! I always find it amazing when people with many children have knitting time. Sometimes I feel like I can't finish anything and it's just my husband and I.
