Knitting and Planning (Yarn Along)

It's been a few weeks since I've participated in Ginny's Yarn Along.  A few busy, wonderful weeks.

I don't knit much in the early days of a newborn in the house - my hands are pretty occupied with other things that are much more important.  A baby is fresh and new for just a few short weeks - but knitting will hopefully be my companion into my twilight years.  Thus, I hadn't made much progress in my February Lady sweater.

The last time I knit on it was actually during labor - funny, the things that relax you!  In early labor with Rosie, I would sit and knit, measuring the space between contractions by how many lace repeats I could get done.  It was when I cast the whole thing aside that I knew it was time to call the midwife - and get down to the real business of bringing a person into the world.

I picked it up again over this past weekend when it rained and snowed and was generally unpleasant outside and the whole thing was cast off and blocking on Sunday morning when we left for church.

It turned out rather nicely - still in need of a few buttons that I'm hoping to hunt for this evening.  It is a bit snug, but then I'm a bit larger than normal right now.  Hoping to wear it to Rosie's baptism next week.

Today I should be getting some sock yarn in the mail (my birthday gift!) and cast on for a Rios dress for Rosie.  I'm making a pumpkin orange one for later this fall and possibly a purple one for summer.  We'll see.  I also need to quickly knit up a baptismal bonnet for her...thinking of using the sourball pattern.

All of this in the off-chance Rosemary decides to nap without me holding her.  Which, at this point, seems like a long shot.  Ah well...I have no complaints.

In reading news, when I get a spare moment or sit nursing my little one(s), I've been slowly making my way through Madeleine L'Engle's "Circle of Quiet,"  the first of her series of journals.  Good stuff for this wannabe writer to be reading.  I really relate to her quiet way and her view of the world/spirituality.

  1. Lovely. All of it. I need to pick up those books. I have long been enchanted by L'Engle and her writing, now would be a good time to immerse myself in her words.
