Giving It Over, Giving It Up

A few weeks ago, my husband lost his job. I knew the moment he walked in the door that something was wrong, evident by how he avoided my eyes and absently patted the kids when they came up to greet him. He was distraught. Broken. Terrified and sick with worry. I hardly knew how to respond.

Sharing just this today over at my church blog today.

  1. i LOVE THIS! It is so hard to find that balance, but I have never thought to just include my interests in our every day. Sure, during quiet time I'll sit with a book or watch a cooking show.... but sometimes it is nice to let your kids see what you enjoy! Great perspective. Thanks as always, Lydia!

  4. Four wise words my Nan always said in times of worry and sorrow - "This too shall pass" - there is always a bend in the road and everything happens for a reason - even if we don't know what that reason is yet - sending you all my prayers and very best wishes x

  5. I can understand this stress. My husband had a steady ministry job where he was LOVED, and thrived in, but God was slowly leading us elsewhere until finally the day came that he said, GO. We did not have a job lined up, we only had a hope and a prayer that our decision was the right one. He's always been faithful. Even when we are unsure, he is. After about a month of interviews, applications and stress he was finally hired yesterday! It is definitely not looked at as a logical step for those in the ministry, but God doesn't play by the rules of this world.
Praying for blessings upon your family and especially your husband in this job hunt.
I told my husband through all of this... We have to have faith... because, I mean... what else is there?!

  9. I cannot imagine where we'd be right now without our faith and the reminder that there is a plan, there is a purpose, there is a reason - even if we can't see it just right up ahead. Thank you for your prayers!

  12. I use this one, and bake it in pans instead of on a pizza stone (don't have one!). I increase the salt just a little bit though. Enjoy! http://www.artisanbreadinfive.com/2009/10/26/our-new-book-healthy-bread-in-five-minutes-a-day-is-released-tomorrow-get-yourself-some-vital-wheat-gluten-and-make-our-whole-grain-master-recipe

  13. Kind of a wild thought but if you come to the conclusion that God is leading you to go west, I'd love to help. I live in a town where we have coal mines, oilfields, methane fields & not enough sober workers for all the jobs. There is a wonderful church here as well (mine!) I will gladly provide my e mail if you'd like. I am in Wyoming & we have a lot of people come here from Michigan to work. Love & prayers, in Jesus, Cynthia

  14. This is great! I like the concrete examples about the knitting, yoga, singing and writing.

  15. darn. I am not good at the "me without pushing them out." I need space and quiet and find it so hard amidst the noise. I need to find better ways to focus us all; so that each one of us get's to be a "me".... and still be one of "us." if that makes sense.
