{Jason's Delicious Bacon Popcorn}

{Last night, I outed myself as a Bacon Popcorn lover in the @TheHighCalling twitter party.  As promised, here's our recipe!}

I must say, popcorn is one of our most consumed snacks over here.  Its quick, easy, and, for a family our size, a relatively cheap snack.  These kids of mine can go through a bag of chips in one sitting, so making snacks at home is a requirement these days.  Popcorn is also a relatively healthy snack - although the following recipe is anything but!

We use a Whirly-Pop stove-top popcorn popper.  I bought one for my husband a few years back and we actually have had to replace it, so frequently was it in use.  You can find them for about $20 at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

There really is no secret to my husband's delicious bacon popcorn.  You merely use reserved bacon grease instead of oil to pop the popcorn with.  Every Southern household saves their bacon grease in a little cup in the fridge.  It definitely took this Mid-Western girl a few years to get used to, but once I tasted the popcorn I knew I couldn't go back!

Bacon Popcorn:

You'll need -

A Whirly Pop popcorn popper
Popcorn kernels (we prefer yellow)
2 TBSP Bacon Grease
Salt to taste

Melt Bacon Grease in Whirly Pop.  Add popcorn kernels as directed in Whirly Pop manual (I think its 1/3C).  When popcorn has finished popping, carefully pour into a large bowl and sprinkle with salt to taste.

This time of year, we love eating our bacon popcorn with a cup of hot chocolate or even warm spiced cider.  Enjoy with your family and don't be surprised if they start asking for it on a regular basis!

  7. Oh, dear. I remember the mention of bacon popcorn, but I'm only just now tracing it back to you, Lydia!

    And the scary thing, this Midwestern girl has a jar of bacon grease sitting in the fridge. I could make this. Tonight.
