Homebody Holiday

"Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on..."  ~Joni Mitchell

Its amazing to me how a few years and a few kids can change someone so much.  Once upon a time I was quite the extrovert, but these days I am much more of a homebody.  Even my introverted husband is out in the "real world" quite a bit more than I am.  I suppose the years of staying home with babies has really given me the feeling of home being my center.  I don't do well with spending a lot of time running around.

This presents a bit of trouble this time of year where there always seems to be a whole pile of outside activities and engagements, regardless of my intention to keep them at bay.  Still, the enthusiasm of my children bolsters me - Dinah's first big ballet performance this weekend, Ben testing in Martial Arts, our end of semester homeschool co op show.  Good things.  Important things.  Special things.  So I put the baby in the carrier and grab my knitting and off we go.  I'm looking forward to the time when this is all past and I can just sit quietly in my own home and focus on Advent and family and the things that mean the most to me.

Thankfully, this past weekend was very low key.  I read a book.  I sewed a quilt top for an upcoming baby shower.  I finished a knitting project and started a new one.  I took a nap with my baby.  Took the time to breathe and plan and prepare.  To pre-charge, the way I know how.

And, now, we're off - off into this busy, wonderful, magical time of year.

  1. Ooo ... A pre-charge. Like that, Lydia.

Glad you had a nice weekend. The nap with baby sounds divine.

  3. "Its amazing to me how a few years and a few kids can change someone so much." I agree! I was a big introvert and afraid to speak my mind before my 4 kids. You can't be like that when you have kids though because someone has to tell them what is right and wrong! I'm still a pretty big homebody though but a lot more domesticated (out of necessity!) than I was as a teen. lol
