A Sweater Saga
If you've been reading for a while, you may remember last April I posted about a sweater I was knitting for myself - in the final stages. I promised an update and, like many things on this blog and in my life, promptly moved on and never posted about it again.
Well, today I will. It has been quite something - a saga, if you will.
At last posting, the sweater was nearly done. I had one sleeve left to complete and was dreaming of wearing it to my birthday dinner. That never happened.
When I went to pick up the stitches for the sleeves, I counted, and then recounted, and realized with horror that somehow, some way, I had screwed up. Way back, right after the yoke, in the splitting for sleeves. To correct this error I would have to rip back the entire sweater.
I was so horrified that I tossed the entire project in a bag and hid it from myself until I could recover and make a decision. It wasn't until September that I revisited the ill fated sweater and figured it all out.
I did pull it all out. But instead of stopping at the sleeve split, I kept on going. I think I knew that I couldn't knit that pattern again, not with the same yarn. It was too disheartening.
I found a new pattern and cast on. It was for a cardigan, but a few rows after the yoke I decided I'd prefer a pull over, henley-style.
Now, months later and just in time for the first snow here in Michigan, its done. My "birthday sweater." And I have to say, I'm pretty happy with it. It still needs to blocked, and I need some action shots. Ravelry notes can be found here.

So beautiful, cannot wait to see action shots :)
ReplyDeleteThat's really gorgeous Lydia. Were you following a pattern to begin with or is it all your own pattern?
