Something Blue

My blue eyed girl is a fanatic for all things blue.  Blue dresses, blue popsicles, blue bracelets, blue blue blue.  So when I saw this fabric line (Oliver + S "Cape Ann")  that was so very perfect for a blue-crazed five year old, I knew it was just right for her main bedding quilt.

I chose this quilt pattern - although I decided ultimately to alternate the squares instead of making them in straight rows of like blocks.  Instead of hand or machine quilting, I just did simple ties using embroidery floss at the center and corners of each block.  The baking is light pink with white polkadots, and for the binding I used the leftover strips from making the squares.

I think it will do just fine.  And Fiona appears to agree.

What are you working on these days?

  1. That is adorable. I do quilting too only I have a quilter finish mine off with detailed quilting styles. Only made four so far they take a lot of time to figure out and sew together then the quilter has to be paid for her work. It is a pretty expensive process.
    Good job.

    1. I would love to do this at some point when I get a little bit better at the rest of the quilting...so far none of mine are "good enough" for me to justify the expense. I love the look though!

  2. It's lovely! And I'm so inspired. I'm finishing up a baby quilt for my new nephew, and have big plans already for the next ones to start. Baby quilts are so nice because their size and scope is so manageable, but I have also poured my heart into the project of making a quilt for each of my children. 4 down. At least 4 to go :-D

    1. I've only done one big one so far, so I have 4 to go as well!

  3. Love it! When all this summer craziness is over can we have a sewing night? I really need to finish up my quilt for you know who so I can move onto my next quilting project. Maybe we can trade off, I'll do embroidery for quilts and cut them out if you sew the things together (it is the easiest part and yet I can't get myself to do it!).

  4. Very cool. I am definitely not skilled in the domestic arts, although I would like to learn. :) I have a "quilt" that I've started years ago. I'm pretty sure that it's all wrong, but don't know where to go to learn how to do these things right. :)

    1. I've self taught by trial and error...and tutorials I find online. My first few projects have been awful, but I'm learning!
