Sunday Morning, Giving Thanks

I woke up in this same little house under a blanket of snow.  There are still bills to be paid and a squeaky tight budget to adhere to.  There are still dentist appointments to get to, laundry to be done, food to be prepared, served, cleaned up and put away.

But this Sunday morning, after I retrieved that chubby toddler chanting "Mama! Mama!" and snuggled back into bed with my arms and belly and heart so full, I thought to myself - Thank you, God.

Thank you that I get to live another day in this life, the one you have given me.  Thank you for Jonah's dimples and Fiona's freckle right where her hair parts.  Thank you for Dinah's sweet heart and for Ben, who tells me every detail of each chapter he reads, so excited to tell me all about it.  Thank you for that husband you've given me, the one who sits up and eats ice cream with me and can't wait to meet our new daughter.  Thank you for Peter, who keeps me laughing day after day.

Thank you for our tiny house, so snug and warm, for our one car that still runs.  Thank you for this small life where we can't have everything, but we can have everything that truly matters.  Thank you for my sister in law and brother and sweet niece Sienna, trekking through the back yard to come for a visit.  Thank you for an evening with my mom, toes outstretched before the wood stove while my Dad takes the kids out sledding.

Today, I'm thrilled that this is my life.  There are bad days and hard things, but I am continuously awestruck that life could possibly be this wonderful.

I nurse my baby, say my prayers, make the sign of the cross and swing my legs over the side of the bed, anxious to start the day.  Thank you, God.
