Late Winter Knitting

We got a fair bit of snow overnight, after a slushy and sleety day.  After last Winter being largely snow-less, we are definitely making up for it this year.  This snow was so wet and heavy that we actually ended up losing a decent sized limb on one of our front yard trees.  A loud scary crack and down it came!  Thankfully missing the house, just by a little bit.  Any true Michigander knows that snow in April is still a possibility, so I'm not ready to say "this is it!" quite yet.  And, truth be told, I'm surprisingly not sick of it yet.  Hoping for another few trips down the sledding hill for the kids and more hot cocoa for me before the season is out.

All this snow demands a few things, of course.  One being lots of soups.  I made chili last night, perfect for a cold, wintry night, with lots of toppings to choose from  The other being knitting.  Lots and lots of knitting.  I finally cast on Dinah's Bulle after she decided to go right along with the exact same pattern and yarn that I used for Fiona's.  It's not quite as exciting and fun for me, but this pattern moves along so quickly it at least keeps my attention.  I need more yarn, so it may be a little while before I make any more progress.  I also knit up a pair of Long Johns  as well as another pilot cap and pair of booties, although I forgot to take a picture before they were taken to their intended home.  Taking on a few commissions here and there feels good at this particular space in time, a space where I feel that driving need to create but really don't need to make anything else quite at the moment.  Of course we know that doesn't mean I won't be making anything...I am thinking of starting a Riding Hood for the baby for Fall.  Just need the perfect yarn!

I bought another grey solid on etsy for my baby quilt with the hopes that it would be here over the weekend, but at last check it hadn't even shipped.  Hopefully it will arrive by the weekend so I can get going on that quilt.  I'm really itching to get it together.

What are you working on?

Linking up with Ginny over at Small Things and Frontier Dreams today.

    1. Thanks! The blue is West Point Blue heather in Cascade 220. I'm not a big solids fan, but it's working out well.

  3. Your neighborhood looks like ours! We are in South West Michigan about an hour from the lake, and we got DUMPED on last night. Great minds must think alike! We had chili a neighbor brought over last night for dinner, and I plan to knit knit knit today. No way you'll catch me out in the cold blustery day!

  8. Oh, I remember quite a few Easters as a child in MI that were full of snow. Fingers crossed you get those sled runs. Lovely color for the sweater.

    1. I do, too! I remember wanting to wear these Easter sundresses and having my romantic notions of frolicking in the field behind my grandma's house completely smashed by having to wear a heavy winter coat over top. My birthday is mid April and we've had a few snows then, too!

  10. Hi, thanks for visiting my blog, Hands Follow Heart. I've been thoroughly enjoying making the Waldorf dolls. The hair is by far the most time consuming part of the doll, you pretty much thread each strand of hair to the doll's scalp(as opposed to a crochet cap). The result is worth it though! I have my eye on Bulle for a long time. Such a beautiful pattern for girls. I look forward to seeing the top ready!
