It's all a bit of a mess over here. We're digging out as best we can, from under Christmas and New Years and 18 inches of snow besides. Today's Epiphany. The schools are all shut down and my kids asked, hopefully, for just one more day. One more day of break. One more day for me to get my feet back under me. One more day until we start back with the math books and spelling lists.
Last week, after a week plus of relatives in town and full day after full day, I kind of checked out. I spent most of it in pajamas with lots of knitting and popcorn for dinner, taking naps with (!) Rosie and ignoring the piles of wet snow gear that encroached on my kitchen. It was so very good, but there is always a price to pay for Mama taking it easy. I've got so much to catch up on.
When this morning I pulled boots on with pajama pants, waded through thigh high drifts and tried to help my husband get the car out of our driveway, I decided yes. One more day. After all, I need to find the school books. Take down the last of the decorations. Find my motivation for this, the second half of our school year - and maybe the 2014 calendar that is somewhere around here...And there's a snow mountain in our very own driveway that, despite arctic temperatures, my kids want to give it a try. Pancakes to eat and fun crafting Christmas gifts for my kids to work on. New books to read and puzzles to put together.
Over here, just one more day. I hope you are all warm, happy and safe!
{It's Mindful Mothering Mondays, a day to take a deep breath and write out your mothering journey, whatever form it takes. A day to link up for encouragement from others who are in this same phase of life. A day of writing out the trials and triumphs and what you're learning right where you are, right now.
You might post recent struggles or thoughts. Maybe just a picture or a quote. Or maybe you'll just come here and read the links that others post. Whatever form your participation takes, this is a day for you.
We are all in this, together. Together, we can encourage and build one another up, be honest with our shortcomings and strengthened by community to keep fighting the good fight.
I chose Mondays because what Mama doesn't need a little encouragement on a Monday? As such, I'll have the link up ready to go on Sunday night for you to begin submitting your links.
I hope you'll meet with me each Monday! Here's what to do ~

Sounds like a great idea. Hope you and your kiddos enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI know what you are feeling like. We have had at least two more days, thanks to an old fashioned New Hampshire snowstorm. Today, ice came and hubby and kids got another day at home. I had a delay, but it was hard to leave them all snug on the couch together! I hope you enjoyed your day and that you are feeling recharged to dive back into the everyday "normal"!
ReplyDeleteOne day more sounds glorious to me! Hope you had a great day!
ReplyDeleteWe had two more days to our vacation due to the snow that fell and the frigid temperatures here in southern Maine, and I have to say we thoroughly enjoyed them. Today was back to routine......and a rather warm rainy day....go figure! Enjoy your week getting back into the swing!
ReplyDeleteI am right with you! We are due to return to a long list of "turn the Titanic around" items... but today? I am going to the library and make soup and then sit and color with my boys. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect! Whenever I say we are taking the day "off," I'm always amazed at how much we actually learn and do! A good reminder that every day is full of possibility.
ReplyDeleteThat was us, too. -15 with wind chills in the high thirties. Brrr!
ReplyDeleteI hear rain is on the way for this weekend. These rollercoaster temperatures are crazy!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are traveling safely and get back to those snug loves on the couch quickly!
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed at how much the kids want to be outside. There's a lot of back and forth because it really is quite cold, but the snow is just so glorious they want to be out in it as much as possible!
