{Eight}

8 whirlwind years ago this morning, I was sitting in a hospital room, eyes brimming with tears as I beheld my perfect baby boy.  Life changed that day - for the better, harder, sweeter.  Today, its hard to believe that wee babe and this leggy youngster with a sunburned nose and long athletic legs is one and the same person.  I might not have believed it if I hadn't experienced it for myself - the sometimes slow but usually quick transformation from tiny bundle to bundle of energy.

Last night he held my hand and I knelt by his bed and together we thanked God for guiding us through the past 8 years.  My voice wavered when I praised Him for gently leading this child-Mama, for keeping his hand of blessing on my little son despite my inexperience and immaturity.  And again when I thanked Him for this son, this sweet, gentle, strong, loving son that He gave me.  Together we asked for His continued guidance.  And then, one last kiss for my then - 7 year old.

Today he goes with his Daddy for a big grown up Boy day at an amusement park, and I stay home with small siblings and bake a birthday cake.  It tugs at a Mama's heart, the way these years just keep rolling by in their endless march forward.  Tugs hard, and can hurt, but instead I am choosing wild joy and gratitude for every moment.

Psalm 9:1 “I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works.” (NKJV)
