Sewing Plans

It should come as no surprise to those who know me best that I've begun my plans for homemade Christmas gifts.  Last year I knitted sweaters for each of my children as well as hats, and made the girls new Waldorf dolls and doll clothes.  This year I am probably biting off more than I can chew once again, but I hope to make four twin-sized quilts - one for each of the four oldest children.  I am beginning with Fiona's, as I found the perfect quilt style and fabric choice for her.

I am going with this simple "Film Strip" quilt (tutorial found here at Crazy Mom Quilts).  I have made 2 other quilts using the tutorials on this blog and love how easy her instructions are!  I'll be making the larger size, a good solid twin sized quilt.

For fabric, I found this adorable Cape Ann collection by Oliver + S.  I have long been a fan of Oliver +S sewing patterns and overall style, and when I saw this collection I knew it would be perfect for Fiona.  The paper doll inspired prints are adorable, and the soft blue is her favorite color.  I'm not sure if I will do the sashing in white or gray yet...we'll see what looks best.

I doubt I will finish this before the end of the summer, seeing as my lap is pretty occupied these days and sewing is pretty low on my priority list.  It is fun to plan, though!

Have you started plans for homemade Christmas gifts?

  3. I usually try to make some Christmas gifts, but I think I'm going to take a break this year. I've got a baby coming in December, and I think I will have my hands full!

  5. That is going to be an absolutely adorable quilt! Cannot wait to see the finished product! I saved that quilt tutorial to my Pinterest! :)

After reading your post from last summer when you said you were doing a homemade Christmas, I decided to try and do the same for this Christmas! I made my daughter a Waldorf doll for Easter and enjoyed making it soo much that I ordered another kit and have been working on my second doll..so I am sure it will end up as a Christmas gift for someone! :) I was thinking of making small lap size quilts for my mother and mom-in-law. As far as my kids go, I have some cute PJ tutorials saved that I think I will make for them as well as those big, round, floor pillows...they will love those! That's pretty much all I've got so far...better start brainstorming some more! :)
