Solstice

Happy Winter Solstice!

We woke to a dusting of snow on the ground, and it seems that Winter has finally decided to pay us a visit.

I'm baking and making soup and treasuring up these moments. Christmas gift making is done as of last night, with one last thumb added to a pair of mittens, and only a few things still need to be wrapped.  Jason will be home tonight with a long weekend home stretching out before him.

It seems that my Christmas gift this year has been peace.  I can't remember a Christmas where I felt this restive so close to the big day.  Perhaps it's the knowledge that, no matter what, all will be well.  Or perhaps I've just finally given up on holiday perfection.  I'm not sure what it is, but it feels so good to be here.

I look around me and I cannot believe how blessed I am.  These kids, even in their tough, squabble-y moments, a wonder.  This snug little home, small and cramped in some ways but warm and homey just the same.  Our family - brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, grandparents and parents -  each a rich blessing of love in our lives.  Friends who support and encourage.  And a God over all, holding all of us just there in His hand.  What more could I ask for?

With all that is going on in the swirl of the big world out there, I'm grateful to be able to close ranks for just a few days and be fully present, focusing on these blessings.

Wishing you and yours the very best - thankful for your encouragement, friendship, your love.
